PEMBROKE STUDENTS TOUR AREA During the week of March 8-12, seventh-grade students from Pembroke Hill will tour the Waldo and the Brookside areas as part of their "Kansas City Week" activities. Students will play the role of consultant or Chamber of Commerce staff, with the goal to generate ideas for attracting people to the area. Through research, interviews and walking tours with staff and local merchants, students will identify community strengths and plans of action for issues they see as challenges. Brookside and Waldo business leaders said they are "delighted to be a part of this fun, educational project. We look forward to hearing what these potential future patrons, neighbors or business owners/leaders have to say about our community."
STATE WARNS ABOUT TAX SCAM Missouri Department of Revenue has been advised that some Web-based companies are selling sales tax identification numbers and tax exemption certificates for Missouri for fees of at least $37. Officials want the public to know that valid Missouri identification numbers and tax exemption certificates can only be obtained from the department, and there is no fee to obtain these numbers or certificates. Missouri businesses must obtain identification numbers to use in their compliance with Missouri tax responsibilities. These numbers are used to prove eligibility to make sales tax-exempted purchases allowed under state law. The numbers and certificates also are obtained by nonprofit organizations to prove eligibility to make sales tax-exempted purchases. Applications for a sales tax number can be made online at https://dors.mo.gov/tax/coreg/index.jsp.
