Cadets attend Boys’ State Three cadet leaders of the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps were selected to represent the Kansas City, Missouri School District at the 70th session of the Missouri Boys’ StateYouth in Government activity in June. Cadets Anthony Johnson of East High School, William Schaefer of Lincoln College Preparatory Academy and Anthony Williams of Westport High School participated in the hands-on learning program sponsored by the American Legion. More than 900 high school students were immersed in the week-long experience designed to reinforce principals of functioning democracy and leadership skills.\
The Kansas City, Missouri School District Board of Directors welcomed John Covington to the district with a reception held July 7 at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center. Covington was hired by the board on April 30. He was previously superintendent of Pueblo City Schools, a 2007 state of Colorado High Performing school district. He has also worked in Alabama school districts as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, executive assistant to the superintendent and superintendent.
