BANK OFFERS HEROES GRANTS
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is accepting applications for the Neighborhood Builders and Local Heroes categories of its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative. Applications for nonprofit organizations and community leaders are due June 30.
In 45 markets, Bank of America will award two Neighborhood Builders who work to promote vibrant neighborhoods. Each will receive $200,000 in unrestricted grant funding in addition to leadership training for an executive director and an emerging leader from the organization. Additionally, each market will recognize five local heroes whose community service and leadership on local issues contribute significantly to neighborhood vitality. Recipients direct a $5,000 contribution to an eligible nonprofit of their choice.

KCMSD OPENS HEARING BUDGET
The Kansas City, Mo., School District will host public hearings on its fiscal year 2010 budget and school consolidations during a two-day span.
The Board of Directors will host a public hearing on the budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the first floor auditorium of the Board of Education building, 1211 McGee St. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts about budget priorities.
The district will host a public forum on the school consolidation process at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also in the first floor auditorium of the Board of Education building.
Copies of the proposed consolidations are available on the district Web site, www.kcmsd.net.

CLICK IT OR TICKET RESULTS
As part of the Click It or Ticket campaign, the Kansas City Police Department issued 822 seat belt citations during the mobilization that took place May 18 to May 31.
Traffic Unit officers spent a total of 1,200 man hours saturating area roadways during the two-week program looking for traffic and seat belt law violators. The mobilization was funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Citations issued during the campaign were: driving while intoxicated, 14; stop sign violation, six; signal light violation, 14; failure to yield, three; careless driving, four; speed, 1,821; other hazardous moving violations, 141; child restraint violations, seven; other non-hazardous moving violation, 324; apprehended fugitives, five; suspended/revoked license, 26; and insurance violations, 188.
Police conducted a total of 2,670 traffic stops during the campaign.
